Technical Requirements

Whether you are studying on campus or online, ECU is committed to providing you with access to quality learning and teaching experiences and support. The information below is to help ensure that you can participate confidently in the digital learning environment.

Hardware

  • Internet connection
  • Computer or mobile device (ideally with microphone and camera) capable of undertaking online activities and video capture.

Browsers

It is recommended that you install the latest versions of two internet browsers on your device to ensure the most reliable experience:

Chrome or Mozilla Firefox 

What are the browser and computer requirements for Canvas? Check if your browser is up to date.

If you are using a smartphone, ensure that you have applied all updates to your device. If you need support, follow these links to instructions for how to apply updates to Apple. and Android

Software

The majority of learning technology applications are part of Canvas or accessed via Student Portal.  The following are exceptions and require instalment:

  • Office 365 on your personal device (for access to Microsoft Teams, used for live online 1:1 and small group discussions and for other Office 365 apps; such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc).
  • Panopto for video capture.  Instructions for installing and using Panopto can be found here.
