Research Ethics Management System

The Research Ethics Management System (REMS) is the university’s online ethics system.

All research and research-related activity should be tested in the Proportional Review Checklist (even if you know ethics review is not required). By answering some brief questions about your planned activity, the Checklist will determine whether the activity requires review and the most appropriate review pathway. Alternatively, your project may qualify for an ‘Out of Scope’ or ‘Exempt from Review’ notification.

Access

REMS is accessible by both staff and students. REMS can be accessed at the ECU Portal.

Log in to the ECU Portal, and then navigate to the ‘Other Logins’ menu on the left-hand side of the screen.

Selecting ‘Research Ethics Management System’ takes you to your personalised REMS Portal.

Support

For assistance with using REMS, please contact the Research Ethics Team.

Technical issues should be directed to the IT Service Desk. This can be for issues such as:

  • REMS is not responding;
  • You are unable to access REMS; or
  • REMS is presenting error messages.

You should lodge an enquiry with the IT Service Desk as soon as possible:

So that we can assist you efficiently, please provide screenshots of the error (if applicable) and a detailed description of what you were doing when the issue occurred.
