Where can I access support?

ECU encourages all students to seek support. Sexual assault and harassment is not something you have to cope with on your own.

We have staff available to support all students who have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment. You do not need to submit a formal report to access this support. ECU will not contact the police without your consent.

Support services at ECU

ECU Security can be contacted at all hours, seven days a week. They will also follow up with other ECU support staff or police and emergency services if required.

ECU provides free, confidential psychological counselling support, available on both the Joondalup and Mt Lawley campuses.

Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4:30pm, phone (08) 9304 6706 for appointments.

Out of Hours Crisis Line provides students with additional support overnights and on weekends. The phone support service will operate from 4:30pm to 8:30am on weekdays, and 24 hours on weekends, providing students with mental health and wellbeing support.

Student Success Officers assist students in negotiating university life and offer one-on-one appointments for students to explore and develop plans to overcome any challenges. Student Success Officers can assist with referrals, providing financial and housing advice or support and more.

ECU  Health Services assists students and staff with their health care needs. You can make an appointment at one of our medical centres by booking online via the website, or calling the following:

Our University Contact Officers are alternative contacts for students and staff on matters related to harassment, discrimination and victimisation.

An ALLY is a person who is informed about, is sensitive toward and has an understanding of issues faced by the LGBTIQ community. An ALLY affirms the experience and rights of LGBTQI people and chooses to challenge the homophobic and hetero-sexist values of others.

Community support services

There are a range of community services available for people who have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment.

Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) provides a 24-hour, seven days a week emergency counselling and medical service in metropolitan Perth.

Yorgum provides counselling for Aboriginal children and adults of all ages who have experienced family violence or child sexual abuse. Available Monday to Friday from 9:00am-5:00pm

1800 RESPECT is a counselling, information and referral service for all Australians. It is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week to support people impacted by sexual assault, domestic or family violence and abuse.

Crisis Care provides after-hours response to child safety and wellbeing, and accommodation assistance and support services for those experiencing family and domestic violence – 1800 199 008.

eSafety Commissioner is Australia’s independent regulator for online safety, helping people who are experiencing image-based abuse and adult cyber abuse.

Lifeline provides 24 hour crisis support to those experiencing emotional distress – 13 11 14
