What happens after I disclose an incident of gender-based violence?

What will happen if I disclose an incident of gender-based violence at ECU?

When you submit a disclosure at ECU, it is directed to the Student Incident and Support Team. If you provide your contact details, a team member will reach out via your preferred method within 24 hours.

They will:

  • attempt to contact you as soon as they receive the report
  • ask how you wish to be contacted for continued discussion of your situation and arrange any support you may need, including counselling, medical appointments, or rehousing
  • ask what outcome you are seeking from your report.

You may choose to report under ECU General Misconduct Rules for an internal investigation. Should you wish to report an incident to ECU, we focus on protecting you from further harm, and making sure you feel safe throughout the whole process. That means taking practical steps to prevent anything from happening again, while also protecting you from any repercussions for reporting.

If you wish to report to the WA Police, ECU will help you make this report. If you choose both processes, ECU will work in conjunction with the WA Police to ensure this can be accommodated.

You may also choose no action be taken other than ECU providing appropriate support.
