Find your direction

We are here to help launch your career

Your time as a student will go by faster than you expect, and the ECU Careers and Employability team is here to help you develop and recognise your employability throughout your degree.

Your career journey doesn’t start at the end of your degree; it starts at the beginning. Many of the most important steps you can take to translate your studies into career success start early. If you work with the Careers and Employability team early, and often, we can help you navigate the path to graduate employment.

Get started right now

Here are some great resources that you can use to get started with thinking about your career direction.

The MyFuture web site has ‘My Career Profile’, which consists of 9 activities to assist you in building a personalised career profile. You will learn about your interests, skills, values, consider your dream job and much more.

When you’re exploring future career options, it’s not just about what you want to do — it’s also about what the ‘world of work’ needs. Labour market knowledge helps you make informed, confident decisions about the next steps on your career journey.

The following sites can give you insights into the Australian labour market:

Online workplace and employment preparation support

Through this module, you will learn to embrace your value and identity in the workplace, know your rights and discover ways to find inclusive employers.

Australian Disability Network (ADN) Stepping Into Internship Program

The ADN is Australia’s peak body for private, public and for-purpose organisations committed to the inclusion of people with disability.

The ADN’s Stepping Into Internship program supports university students with disability and recent graduates to connect with employers seeking interns. You can apply for opportunities during the winter or summer semester break.

Find out more by visiting the ADN’s Stepping Into Internship program website.

Developed in conjunction with Australian universities, the GradWISE program provides specialised support to improve employment opportunities for students living with a disability, mental or physical illness or injury. Edith Cowan University is the first Western Australian University to partner with GradWISE to offer this program to our students.

GradWISE enhances support that students already receive at ECU with a personalised careers program.

This program provides one-on-one guidance and coaching to help you develop the skills and experience necessary to secure the ideal internship or graduate role.

GradWISE collaborates with you and a network of inclusive employers to find the best match for your career goals, offering continuous support before and during your employment for as long as you need it.

If this sounds like the support you’ve been looking for and would like to be referred to the program, please book an appointment to see an ECU Career Adviser to discuss further.
