Mentoring other students as a Peer Leader is a great skill to add to your resume.
Peer Leaders are trustworthy, committed enthusiastic and successful students. They are good communicators who provide support to new students to make them feel welcome and make their transition into university life a little easier.
Being a Peer Leader gives you the opportunity to pass on the tricks you have learned to thrive at ECU.
Your role as a Peer Leader involves providing peer support and guidance to your Mentees – a small group of first year students. Importantly, your role as a Peer Leader is to motivate and encourage your Mentees and help them to become independent and learn how to handle diverse situations.
Mentoring groups communicate regularly via email and meet in person several times during the semester to chat about their university experiences.
Peer mentoring is highly beneficial for your career prospects. Becoming a Peer Leader enables you to:
Peer Leaders who complete at least one semester of mentoring will also receive a certificate of participation, which will look great on your résumé.
If you are a current student enrolled in an undergraduate course in at least your second year of study or more, with good academic standing and strong role model characteristics, you are eligible to apply to become a Peer Leader as part of ECU's Peer Leadership Program.
Eligible applicants will be contacted each semester and invited to apply.
For further information on becoming a Peer Leader, contact the Careers and Employability team on +618 6304 5899 or email careers@ecu.edu.au.
