Research Reports for an External Body

To support the preparation of the University’s ERA-2023 submission, Research Services are requesting researchers to submit any ‘Research Reports for an External Body’ produced in the 2016-2021 ERA outputs reference period.

Eligibility

The ERA 2023 Submission Guidelines define ‘Research Reports for an External Body’ as: “a written research output commissioned or solicited by an external body such as a government department or private company.”  Sub-categories of these research outputs are as follows:

Type

Description

Public sector

A research report undertaken for an Australian, state, territory, local, foreign or international government body or organisation.

Industry

A research report undertaken for a company, industry organisation, industry peak body, or an employer/employee association.

Not-for-profit

A research report undertaken for a body or organisation operating in the not-for-profit sector.

Other

A research report undertaken for an organisation not covered by the above sub-categories.

The following examples are unlikely to be eligible for submission under this output category:

  • Submissions to public inquiries and consultations, including government or parliamentary inquiries.
  • Policy blogs or online commentaries/articles.
  • Briefing notes.

To be eligible for inclusion in the University’s ERA-2023 submission, in addition to the above, reports must meet the definition of research (see section 2 of ECU’s Research Outputs Government Specifications); have been published within the reference period (2016-2021) and have one or more eligible researchers listed as authors/creators either within or on the output.

If you are unsure as to whether your research report meets the eligibility requirements, please submit it for review and the ECU ERA Team.
