HDR Scholarships

National Industry PhD (NIPhD) Program  

The NIPhD Program is an Australian Government initiative that funds PhD candidates to undertake industry-focused research projects co-designed by a university and an eligible Australian business. The purpose is to enhance collaboration between universities and industry, train PhD qualified researchers to enable them to work across both sectors and foster more tangible research impact.

Applications for Round 7 of the NIPhD Program are open from Monday 9 February until Friday 20 March 2026. Further information can be found at the Campus Plus website.

ECU Application Process for Stream 1: National iPhD Program

  • To apply for the Stream 1: National iPhD Program, ECU academic staff must first be awarded the ECU Industry Engagement PhD/MBR Scholarship Scheme.
  • To apply for the ECU Industry Engagement PhD Scholarship Scheme, you can find the Guideline and Expression of Interest (EOI) form here.

The ECU Industry Engagement PhD or MBR Scholarship Scheme provides a pathway for PhD or MBR candidates to link with an industry partner, community organisation or government agency.

HDR Scholarships (RTP and ECUHDRS) are allocated based on projects to ensure that scholarship allocations align with the research strengths, priorities and objectives of the University.

Project-Based Scholarship Expressions of Interest are open to Research Supervisors in approximately February and June each calendar year. The 2026 Mid-Year EOI form will be open to Supervisors from Monday 2nd February 2026. The competitive 2026 HDR Scholarship Main Round is now CLOSED. The 2026 HDR Scholarship Mid-year round will be open for candidates to apply via the scholarship portal on 12 May 2026.

Edith Cowan University (ECU) offers prospective PhD candidates the opportunity to undertake doctoral studies in collaboration with the University of Portsmouth (UoP) through the ECU–UoP Joint PhD Program.

The ECU–UoP Joint PhD Scholarship is open to prospective PhD candidates from all disciplines, yet prioritisation will be given to research conducted in the fields of Defence, Cyber Security and Criminology. Under this scheme, one scholarship will be available at ECU each year for five years, commencing in 2026.

Successful candidates will benefit from joint supervision and gain access to the research expertise, world-class facilities, and support services of both ECU and UoP.
