Reviewing performance

At ECU we encourage constructive two-way feedback that recognises successful achievements, as well as areas for improvement or further development.

The discussion with your supervisor is an important occasion to consider your future career aspirations, whether this is a new role within ECU, or another role external to the University.

It's also an opportunity to target some short and longer term development or training that will help you maximise your current performance and prepare you for moving onto the next role.

ASPEO Framework

For academic staff, there are opportunities to progress your career through academic promotion (see web page) or by undertaking an academic leadership role.

The Academic Staff Performance Expectations and Outcomes (ASPEO) Framework is an important reference in assessing your performance and planning your future academic career. ASPEO aims to provide greater clarity around what is valued in these key areas of academic work at ECU:

  • Learning and Teaching;
  • Research and Creativity; and
  • Academic Leadership and Service.

ASPEO provides a structure for academic staff to plan the balance and emphasis of their work in the context of their professional and career development that's aligned with ECU's expectations. It is therefore a key element in any MPS discussions between you and your supervisor.
