This part of the website covers employment conditions and your obligations as an ECU staff member.
The general terms and conditions of employment for academic and professional staff are contained in Edith Cowan University Enterprise Agreement 2022.
ECU supports employees having access to flexible working arrangements, subject to operational requirements.
Covers the conditions under which you can work at ECU, especially if you're not an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
Staff leave entitlements can be found in ECU's Enterprise Agreement 2022.
You can check your leave balance and also make a leave request via the Staff Kiosk.
ECU observes national and state public holidays, including two University holidays immediately after Boxing Day.
Ongoing and fixed-term employees are entitled to be absent from work on a public holiday where they would normally be expected to work on this day.
Ongoing and fixed term employees residing outside of Western Australia are paid Public Holidays in accordance Clause 50.3 of the Agreement, provided they would normally work on those days.
Public Holidays observed within Australia are available on the Fair Work website.
An employee may request to work a public holiday provided it is a day they would normally work, and substitute another day for the public holiday. If the request is agreed the employee works the public holiday at ordinary rate of pay, and the substitute day off when taken is also paid at the ordinary rate of pay.
More information: Substituting Public Holidays FAQ
To request to substitute a public holiday please complete the Substituting Public Holidays Request form available from the Payroll Services section of the DCS Kiosk.
The ECU Enterprise Agreement 2022 (clause 65) and the Fair Work Act 2009 provide eligible employees with a right to disconnect from work.
The right to disconnect refers to an employee’s ability to switch off both physically and mentally from work, outside of their normal or agreed working hours. The intention is to encourage a positive work-life balance.
See Right to Disconnect Information for more details.
