Staff living with a disability

ECU is committed to recruiting and retaining a workforce that reflects our community and fosters an inclusive working environment that supports all staff to maximise their talent and potential.

Access and Mobility Maps - ECU has campus specific maps that provide information to help people with mobility difficulties to  understand accessible routes around our campuses, the location of accessible parking spaces and bathroom facilities.

ACROD Parking Bays - ACROD permit holders are not required to pay for parking at ECU when they park in an ACROD bay, so do not need an ECU permit.

Reasonable Adjustments - If you are aware of an employee’s disability, it is a legal obligation to provide what is known as a 'reasonable adjustment' to accommodate their needs. Reasonable workplace adjustments involve modifications to the work environment, processes, or practices to enable employees to safely and effectively perform the essential functions of their job.

Examples of reasonable adjustments include:

  • Flexible working hours to accommodate medical appointments or fatigue management.
  • Ergonomic office equipment, such as adjustable chairs or sit-stand desks, to support physical health.
  • Assistive technologies, like screen readers or speech recognition software, to aid employees with visual or hearing impairments.
  • Modified duties or tasks to align with the employee’s capabilities.

If reasonable adjustments are necessary to enable an employee with a disability to perform their job, the associated costs may be covered by external government funding. For more information regarding reasonable adjustments and the support available to employees, please contact StaffHealthSupport@ecu.edu.au.

If you live with a disability and would like to confidentially discuss what we can do to support you, please contact your People and Culture Business Partner.
