The National Intelligence Discovery Grants (NIDG) program commenced in 2020 with funding from the Office of National Intelligence and the Defence National Security Science and Technology Centre (NSSTC).
The NIDG program supports excellent research that deepens understanding of emerging science and technology and addresses intelligence and national security interests and facilitates innovation and develops national security and intelligence capacity.
The Intelligence Challenges grants provide support to research that aligns with the priority research areas identified by the Australian Government. These research areas are outlined in the Intelligence Challenges developed under the broad National Security Science and Technology Priorities.
The NIDG Intelligence Challenges grants will provide funding of between $400,000 and $800,000 per project for up to three years.
It is a requirement that all named investigators and personnel that receive salary support or stipends be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand Special Category Visa Holders. Full details surrounding eligibility are outlined in the grant guidelines.
