Research areas
Sadaf is a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Green and Smart Energy Systems (CGSES) in the School of Engineering. Her research focuses on developing environmentally aware underwater acoustic communication systems that minimize harmful interference with marine mammals. This research is crucial, as acoustic communication is a widely used method for underwater environments due to its ability to transmit signals over long distances. However, it can interfere with marine animals’ acoustic signals, leading to stress, injuries, behavioural changes, mass strandings, or even death. Therefore, Sadaf’s research aims to address this issue by proposing a model that benefits both human communication needs and marine life conservation.
Background
Sadaf completed her bachelor’s degree in computer software engineering in Iran in 2012. She then pursued a master's degree in the same field in 2017. Following her master's, she published scientific papers in top-ranking international journals and conferences. In 2023, she immigrated to Australia to pursue a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a focus on communication, where she was awarded the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship. In her leisure time, Sadaf enjoys painting, photography, sports, and dancing.
