Lucas is available at Joondalup campus each Monday from 10 am to 2 pm.
Lucas is a PhD student in Marine Biology at the School of Science. His research focuses on the geographic range size of coral reef fishes, employing phylogenetic modelling techniques to explore evolutionary and ecological drivers of range size variation and species distributions. He integrates large-scale ecological datasets with environmental variables, using advanced spatial analyses to assess biodiversity patterns. His work also extends to the assessment of endemic coral reef fish, their distributions, and evolutionary patterns, as well as the bioregionalization of reef fishes and its implications for real-world conservation challenges.
Lucas is an international student from Germany. He holds a BSc in Marine Biology and an MPhil in Marine Science. Before his PhD, he was a student and GIS tutor at James Cook University, leading workshops on geospatial analysis. He has presented at international conferences, published research in leading ecological journals, and served as a peer reviewer. Outside of research, Lucas enjoys diving, surfing, and exploring the outdoors.
