Research Area:

Aydin is a PhD student at the Centre of Precision Health (CPH) in the School of Medical and Health Sciences. His research focuses on identifying biomarkers for monitoring and predicting treatment response in melanoma patients. One innovative approach is the use of liquid biopsies (simple blood tests) that can detect tumour-related DNA (ctDNA) shed into the bloodstream. This non-invasive method provides real-time insights into the genetic and epigenetic(methylation) makeup of a patient’s cancer, allowing for personalized and precise treatment strategies. Aydin is specifically exploring methylation patterns of ctDNA in melanoma patients. Through his research, Aydin aims to uncover melanoma specific methylation patterns and identify potential targets that can be used as a biomarker.

Background:

Aydin began his academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Tabriz, where he was awarded a national full scholarship. His passion for applying chemistry to real-world health challenges led him to pursue a Master's in Clinical Biochemistry at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, again earning a full national scholarship based on academic merit. Following his postgraduate studies, Aydin joined the Clinical Biochemistry Department as a research assistant, where he spent two years developing his skills in laboratory research and scientific collaboration. Eager to expand his knowledge and explore new opportunities, he was awarded a fully funded scholarship to pursue a PhD at ECU.

As an international student, Aydin brings both scientific dedication and a strong sense of social responsibility. He finds great meaning in serving the community, and is actively involved in volunteering and charitable fundraising efforts.
