Entry Standards Working Group

NOTE:
For Students – access the Policies and Procedures site.
For Staff – further details, information and supporting documentation is available on the Academic Quality and Standards SharePoint site. Please note access to this site requires an ECU staff login.

In accordance with the Admission, Enrolment and Academic Progress Rules and Admission Policy, approval of ECU’s entry standards is the responsibility of the University’s Academic Board.

The ESWG is a Sub-committee of the Education Committee, with the specific purpose of assessing, reviewing and monitoring ECU’s current and proposed entry standards, credit arrangements and inherent requirements, and making recommendations to the Education Committee as required.

The Working Group is chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), and brings together representatives from ECU’s Student Administration, Student Life, Centre for Learning and Teaching (English Language Expert and Post Entry Language Assessment Advisor), International Office, Academic Quality and Standards areas; and other members are co-opted for specific topics as required.

The ESWG will consider proposed amendments to ECU’s institutional and course-specific requirements for selection and admission relating to all onshore and offshore students and partners; including:

  • academic entry standards;
  • English language standards;
  • Special admission requirements;
  • Inherent requirements;
  • Pathways;
  • Articulation arrangements; and
  • Recognition of prior learning and advanced standing.

Meetings are held approximately every six weeks and align with the cycle of Education Committee meetings. The Entry Standards Working Group meeting schedule is available on the Academic Quality and Standards SharePoint site.

To submit an item to the ESWG

You will need to:

  • complete a Request to Change an Entry Standards form.
  • verify whether there are applicants or students who will be impacted by the change by downloading a Course Impact Report;
  • conduct benchmarking to verify how the request sits in comparison with other providers; and
  • consult the professional body or course consultative committee (if applicable).

Please note that changes to entry standards of courses and unit sets need to be entered into the Curriculum Approval and Publication System (CAPS) in parallel to this process. Please consult the Academic Programs Adviser for your School to assist with this.

Once the documentation is complete, please send it to annette.thompson@ecu.edu.au for review and verification.

The documentation will be returned to the proposer with a recommendation from Admissions for approval through the appropriate committee delegations (dependent on recommendation).

The Entry Standards Approval Workflow outlines the process.

For more information, please contact AQS@ecu.edu.au or extension 5678.
