Managing structure and positions

Having an accurate and up-to-date staffing structure or establishment is a line management responsibility.

Maintaining accurate establishment information enables each Manager to assess the effectiveness of existing arrangements, including budget allocations, and enact change in a planned way to meet future needs.

Information about creating, disestablishing or modifying existing organisational structures and positions is provided on this page, including Organisation Structure and Position Establishment policy.

Further information that can assist with planning for change can also be found in the link "Facilitation of Change" to the right of this page.

Delegations policy

The authority and accountability framework for establishing and making changes to staffing establishment is set out in the HR Delegations.

Business units regularly change structure to adjust to changing circumstances, often on a year-to-year basis. These changes should be foreshadowed in staff planning discussions and follow University practices and guidelines.

Affecting large scale changes will require consultation with your HR Business Partner and Employee Relations advice to ensure compliance with the relevant industrial tool.
