Funding Opportunities

Overseas study can be costly, but it doesn't have to be! There are a number of financial support options available, for students to consider what might be right for them.  Eligibility criteria apply.

Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program (DACKEP)

The Destination Australia Cheung Kong Exchange Program (DACKEP) is a joint funding initiative of the Australian Government and the Cheung Kong Group.

This program is offering ECU students a grant of up to $7,500 to study a semester overseas in 2025 in an eligible county.

Furthermore, this program is also offering students from any of the eligible countries, a grant of up to $4,500 to study a semester exchange at ECU in 2025.

Eligible countries include: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China (including Hong Kong), India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Republic of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Priority will be given to students from one of our Asia Oceania Five University Alliance (AOFUA) partners or ECU students wanting to study on exchange at one of the AOFUA universities which include;

  • Tokyo City University - Japan
  • De La Salle University - Philippines
  • Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology - Thailand
  • Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology - Malaysia

New Colombo Plan Mobility Grants - Semester length

The New Colombo Plan Mobility Program is an Australian Government initiative that provides funding to Australian universities to support Australian undergraduate students’ participation in study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research in 40 host locations across the Indo-Pacific region.

Students interested in undertaking a semester abroad in the Indo-Pacific region may be eligible for up to $10,000 of grant funding to support their overseas study.

Eligible students must:

  • be an Australian Citizen
  • not be a citizen or permanent resident of the host location

Further eligibility criteria apply. Contact International.office@ecu.edu.au for further information or to submit your interest in funding for exchange in an Indo-Pacific country in 2026.

Students will need to apply for the exchange place by contacting studyoverseas@ecu.edu.au or though the ECU Student Exchange website.

Available grants for 2025 will be published by 31 December 2024.


New Colombo Plan Scholarships

The New Colombo Plan Scholarship is a signature initiative of the Australian Government which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study and undertake Internships in the region. The scholarship provides numerous benefits including a travel allowance, an establishment allowance, and a monthly stipend. Promotion and an ‘Expression of Interest’ form will be available from the ECU scholarship website when 2025 applications open.

The OS-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that helps eligible undergraduate students enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place at an Australian university undertake some of their study overseas.

OS-HELP can be used for a range of expenses associated with the overseas study, such as airfares, accommodation and other travel or study expenses. As a student, you may receive one OS-HELP loan for a six-month study period and you can access a total of two OS-HELP loans over your lifetime.

OS-HELP loans are administered through ECU on behalf of the Australian Government and will provide assistance to eligible students on overseas activities such as short-term study tours and semester exchange.

Gerald Frank Brown Scholarship

Looking to study in the UK or Europe? The Gerald Frank Brown scholarship has been established by the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation in cooperation with the universities of WA to financially assist high-achieving European students to study in Western Australia through a formal exchange program (inbound). The scholarship funds also provide for Western Australian university students to participate in a student exchange program with universities in the European Economic Community (outbound). The scholarship offers a one-time payment of $2,000.

China Link Scholarship Program

Details: The China Link Scholarship is provided by the China Scholarship Council for students to study at a Chinese university for between 1 - 12 months in duration.

Study must commence before 31st August 2025.

Applications are open to undergraduate or postgraduate students for a general scholarship or Ph.D students for a senior scholarship.

Onassis Foundation

Details: Scholarships for students wanting to study at postgraduate level or higher in Greece.

In 1995 the Foundation established an annual program of grants and scholarships for research, study and artistic endeavour within Greece. The educational program is intended exclusively for non-Greeks: members of national academies, university professors of all levels, Postgraduate students, PhD holders, post-doctorate researchers and doctoral candidates.

IKY – Foreign Nationals Scholarships

Details: The State Scholarships Foundation (IKY), since 1964, grants scholarships for postgraduate or postdoctoral studies in Greece, as well as scholarships for the attendance of the Modern Greek Language and Culture. The programmes for postgraduate/postdoctoral studies are announced in January or February of each year, and the scholarships are offered to nationals (foreigners or of Greek origin).

Fulbright Scholarships

Details: The Australian-American Fulbright Commission promotes and supports educational and cultural exchange between Australia and America. Fulbright Scholarships are available to Australian citizens from all fields to undertake research or postgraduate study in the United States.

A number of scholarships are available depending on your career stage.
