Outbound Learning Abroad (Global Student Mobility)

ECU aspires to become a leader in international student education and to be recognised for our international enterprise. ECU will provide opportunities for all its domestic and international students to become world ready graduates. We will do this by helping our students to acquire cross-cultural knowledge through student exchange and learning abroad programs and through support for language and communication skills development.

Outbound Learning Abroad opportunities consist of Study Tours, Clinical Placements, Practicums, Semester Length Student Exchange, Study Abroad, International Work Integrated Learning, Internships and International Research Opportunities. Click on the links below for further information.

Study Tours, Clinical Placements and Practicums

Study Tours are short term programs that can involve customised academic and cultural activities and are led by an Academic staff member. Study tours normally run from one to four weeks.

Clinical placements are a work, clinical or teacher education placement in an international setting.

Student Exchange

Student Exchange occurs on a reciprocal basis and must be supported by an official Student Exchange Agreement.

ECU Students participating in a Student Exchange Program continue to be enrolled at ECU and pay their tuition fees to ECU.  Overseas students participating in a Student Exchange Program at ECU will continue to pay their tuition fees to their home institution.

Study Abroad (fee paying)

Study Abroad is a semester or year program, for credit, where students pay fees to the host institution if there is no current exchange agreement in place or the host institution is unable to offer the student an exchange place.

International Work Integrated Learning and Internships

International work integrated learning and internships are industry placements where students undertake paid (or unpaid) work with an employer. Students are embedded in an external organisation for a period of time. In general placements are longer term activities from a month to a semester.

Funding Opportunities

Heading overseas to study can be costly, but doesn't have to be limiting! There are a number of financial support options available to consider.  Students may be eligible for a loan, grant or scholarship to assist in their study overseas experience.

Dual and Joint Degrees

ECU aspires to become a leader in international student education and to be recognised for our international enterprise. With partnerships globally, ECU is able to offer unique opportunities such as our dual and joint degrees, whereby part of your ECU studies includes an overseas component.

Research Abroad Activities

Research students may undertake data collection, attend a conference, present at a conference and/or conduct other research activities overseas as part of their degree. The amount of time spent overseas will vary depending on the research activity being undertaken.

Virtual Learning Abroad

Virtual activities comprise a range of experiences including online classrooms, language classes and industry placements.
