Leaving ECU

Leaving ECU

When you decide it's time to leave ECU, there are a few things we need you to do before you go.

The first thing is to discuss your resignation or retirement with your line manager. Following this discussion you will need to confirm your resignation or retirement in writing to your line manager providing the required notice period as detailed below.

In some circumstances it may be possible to seek agreement on a lesser notice period. Approval for an alternative notice period needs to be confirmed in writing by the relevant line manager.

Resignation requirements

  • Academic ongoing staff: you must give six months' written notice of your intention to resign, unless a shorter period is mutually agreed. Resignation will normally coincide with the conclusion of a teaching session or semester.
  • Academic fixed term staff, Professional and general staff: you must give four weeks' written notice of your resignation, unless a shorter period is agreed between you and ECU.

If you fail to provide the required or agreed amount of written notice, you will forfeit the payment equal to the required or agreed amount of salary in lieu of that notice.

Working visa obligations

If you've been employed with ECU on an employer-sponsored or non-sponsored visa type then, in addition to the conditions and obligations outlined in the visa approval notice, you have the following obligations:

  • You must specifically advise People and Culture (people@ecu.edu.au) and Department of Home Affairs within 10 working days of your final cessation date that you are longer employed.
  • If you breach the conditions of your visa, it may be cancelled.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure that you have a valid visa to remain in Australia at all times.
  • You can check your visa conditions and expiry date of your visa through Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO).

Payment of accrued leave entitlements

To receive payment of any accrued leave entitlements you need to ensure the return of any University issued equipment prior to your final working day. Failure to return these items may see the equivalent monetary value recovered from your final pay.

If you have any queries relating to this payment or your leave entitlements, please contact Payroll Services.

Providing feedback

A great way to let us know what you thought about your time at ECU is to complete an online exit survey.

This survey will be emailed to you prior to leaving. If you haven't received one and would like to provide us with feedback, please email: people@ecu.edu.au
