Employed - Need to Work

To be eligible for the Commonwealth Prac Payment (CPP) through the Need to Work pathway, you must be in paid employment and provide evidence of your work hours and income during the relevant assessment period.

Your evidence must demonstrate that during the assessment period you:

  • Worked more than 15 hours per week on average, and
  • Earned no more than $1,536.37 gross per week, including scholarships and other financial support.

What is the assessment period?

The assessment period is the earlier of:

  • The four weeks before your placement starts; or
  • The four weeks before you submit your CPP application.

Documentation provided must cover this assessment period.

Forms and Supporting Documents

Important

  • Evidence must relate to the correct assessment period.
  • You must provide evidence for all employment undertaken during the assessment period.
  • Scholarships and other financial support may be included when assessing income.
  • Providing incomplete documentation may delay assessment of your application.
  • Meeting the Need to Work requirements does not automatically guarantee approval. You must also meet all other CPP eligibility requirements.

Employment Circumstances

You may provide evidence such as:

  • A completed CPP ECU Employer Confirmation Form available from the ECU Student Forms page
  • Payslips
  • Payroll statements
  • An employer letter
  • Income summaries
  • Other official employment records

Your evidence should show:

  • Hours worked
  • Gross income earned
  • Dates covered by the evidence

You must provide evidence for all employment undertaken during the assessment period.

This may include:

  • Provide a completed CPP ECU Employer Confirmation Multiple Employers Form from each employer you worked for. The form is available from the ECU Student Forms page, or
  • Payslips and payroll records covering all employment

The evidence provided must demonstrate your total:

  • Hours worked
  • Gross income earned

for the entire assessment period.

If you are self-employed, you must submit a CPP ECU Self Employed Declaration Form, available from the ECU Student Forms Page, and, provide evidence demonstrating both your working hours and income during the assessment period.

Examples may include:

  • Business invoices
  • Billing records
  • Timesheets
  • Client records
  • Other supporting business documentation

Additional documentation may be required to support your application.

If your payslips do not include hours worked, you may provide:

  1. A completed CPP ECU Employer Confirmation Form, available from the ECU Student Forms Page, or
  2. Additional evidence from your employer confirming:
    • Hours worked during the assessment period
    • Gross income earned
    • Relevant dates
