Information Privacy
The Australian Government may collect, disclose, make a record, or otherwise use a student’s personal information for the purposes of administering the program, or for another reason where an exemption applies. The Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles govern how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, and stored by the department.
The department may share a student’s personal information with other Commonwealth entities for research, statistical analysis, and policy development in relation to the program where use of this information is reasonably necessary. The department may also share the information about students with Providers and State and Territory Governments for the purposes of administration of the CPP Program.
Terms and Conditions
- By submitting an application, you acknowledge and consent for your information to be shared with the Australian Government as specified under Information Privacy.
- Submitting an application does not guarantee approval.
- Applications will be assessed in line with the latest Commonwealth Prac Payment guidelines issued by the Australian Government.
- CPP is taxable income and must be declared to:
- The ATO in your tax return
- Services Australia (if you receive income support)
- Payments are benchmarked to the weekly Austudy rate (e.g. $338.60/week in 2026) and are considered taxable income.
- You may only receive CPP payments for the maximum number of weeks set for your discipline:
- Nursing – up to 20 weeks
- Midwifery – up to 26 weeks (20 weeks clinical + 6 weeks continuity of care)
- Social Work – up to 26 weeks
- Teaching – up to 16 weeks (Bachelor) or 12 weeks (Master)
- If you withdraw from your course or placement, or do not complete the full placement period you received CPP for:
- You may be required to repay part or all of your CPP payment.
- We will report the withdrawal to the Department of Education for funding reconciliation.
- If you fail to declare a change in circumstance, including enrolment, income, ISP status, or placement dates, your CPP payment may be:
- Withheld,
- Recovered,
- Referred for further compliance action, or
- Excluded from future CPP payments
- Note: Applications should be submitted within 6 months of the placement start date and before graduation. Late applications beyond this timeframe may not be considered.
