Helen Claxton, MEXT Study Tour - Japan (December 2023)

"The tour offered invaluable insights into Japanese culture, fostering cross-cultural understanding. Networking opportunities were abundant, creating professional connections and knowledge exchange. The meticulous planning and seamless coordination significantly contributed to a smooth and enriching experience. The diverse range of activities catered to various interests, ensuring a well-rounded exposure."

Mia Freeman – Global Futures Virtual Program (December 2023)

“I decided to take the Global Futures unit to widen my understanding and knowledge base of diverse global cultures and issues. The program allowed me to explore topics that deeply interest me but I otherwise wouldn’t have been able to research during my degree. My favourite part of the program was the collaborative project where my group discussed how men and women’s lives differ in our countries. This opportunity to collaborate and connect with international students was extremely valuable and allowed me to gain an insight into how gender issues impact fellow students individually and collectively within their communities. The program certainly broadened my professional and personal perspectives and led to many new friendships. I would absolutely recommend Global Futures to every student; there are so many different opportunities to grow in just two weeks!”

Jonathon Pitcher - MEXT Study Tour - Japan (December 2023)

“I am incredibly grateful to ECU and TCU for this opportunity as it was amazing and if anything like this came up again, I would absolutely love to have the chance to be selected again.

This study tour to Japan was special for me as I had never traveled internationally before, though I am not unexperienced with solo travel around Australia this was something entirely different. Getting to experience a new culture and country was amazing and really broadened my perspective when it comes to not just my studies by my life overall. Starting in 2024 I am transitioning into environmental engineering from a general technology (engineering) degree so this study tour being focused on environmental sciences was great at giving me more foundational knowledge on the topics and showing me how the other adjacent environmental fields work and view the world. Getting the chance to learn a new language as well although briefly but I hope to continue study going forward was great and a new and exciting challenge, I now have a network of TCU peers that I can talk to and practice speaking Japanese with along with in turn helping them with speaking English.

Tokyo is an amazing and very welcoming city, that was a perfect location for basing this study tour as having no Japanese language skills was only a minor problem that could be resolved with the use of smart phone translators and the basics of Japanese."
