New starter - General staff, ongoing and fixed-term

Contracts over 6 months

Our online staff induction has been developed to ensure your transition is as smooth as possible. We understand starting a new job can sometimes be an overwhelming experience, so this material will always be here for you to refer back to throughout your employment – to help make life a little easier.

As an ongoing or fixed-term employee on a contract longer than six months, your induction has been tailored to two parts. The Required items, which are designed to support you and your supervisor to clarify expectations for your role, are a requirement for you to complete within the first six weeks of commencing employment with us. Our training and development courses, information for getting to know us and getting started, can be completed at your own pace and will help you become familiar with our organisation’s structure, our values, and where to find a range of services. Use the staff induction to explore our University and get the most out of your ECU experience.

Getting started

To help you get started, this part of induction will guide you through the small things you'll need in your first week. Find out about:

  • staff ID and access cards
  • email etiquette
  • campus maps
  • travelling to work and parking

Required items

It's a requirement that you complete the Required items and checklist within your first six weeks of employment. Some of these items will be completed with your supervisor:

  • role clarification
  • behaviour expectations
  • probation and performance management
  • security and emergency procedures
  • OS&H induction
  • qualifications
  • EO Online 
  • Records training
