Courses are run by the Centre for Learning and Development (CLD), Graduate Research School (GRS), Office of Research and Innovation (ORI) and external providers.
Reach Your Potential is our orientation forum. Understanding where you fit into the bigger picture when working at ECU is vital in understanding how you contribute to ECU's mission, vision and strategic priorities. This informal forum will provide you with an opportunity to meet some of the members of the Senior Executive Team and network with other staff over lunch. All new teaching staff (sessional or ongoing), regardless of prior teaching experience, are required to attend this three hour workshop prior to commencing teaching at ECU. This workshop introduces staff to the specific teaching context and culture of ECU, including ECU's aims, strategies and student profiles. PDC112 is designed for all new sessional teaching staff and provides an overview of teaching and learning at university; managing learning in tutorials, seminars and workshops; assessing student learning and evaluating your teaching. This course is an initial one day workshop (6 hours contact time) and then further participation in additional school based activities, comprising: a reciprocal peer observation of teaching and participation in at least three teaching meetings. GRS has a wide range of resources which include online modules for research skills training and supervisor compliance training; an overview of repositories of research material; and online tools for research.
