The following is a brief overview of the main ECU supported learning technologies:
TECHNOLOGY | WHAT IS IT? | SUPPORT RESOURCE |
---|---|---|
Canvas | Canvas is ECU’s Learning Management System (LMS), provides the main interface to the student digital learning environment for learning materials, assessment and interactive online learning activities. Many of the following technologies mentioned below are integrated within Canvas. | Staff Portal > Easy Logins > Canvas |
Immersive Reader | You can use Immersive Reader to improve the accessibility of learning materials and boost your reading comprehension. Immersive Reader is available in Canvas and the Microsoft Office suite of applications ie Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Key features include control of page viewing by:
Canvas provides access to a built-in Immersive Reader. Note: The Immersive Reader in Canvas will not be able to read embedded documents like Word. You must download the document and use Immersive Reader for the Microsoft Office tools. Microsoft Office tools have an Immersive Reader available from the View tab e.g Word. Read and watch the videos to learn more from the Immersive Reader Microsoft guide | The Immersive Reader button appears in the top right corner of your Canvas course site. |
LinkedIn Learning | LinkedIn Learning is a comprehensive collection of expert video tutorials and courses that can be viewed at your own pace whilst on campus or at home. Students and Staff have unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning during their time at ECU, and can access videos on Business, Creative or Technology topics, or suggested Learning Paths from the LinkedIn Learning Browse menu. | LinkedIn Learning |
Lucid Education Suite | With the Lucid Education suite, educators can create interactive, embedded learning experiences in Canvas that promote student collaboration and encourage visual explanations of concepts. The Lucid education suite includes Lucidchart and Lucidspark. Lucidchart - is an intelligent diagramming application that allows you to visualise complex ideas, systems, and processes. Lucidspark - is a virtual whiteboard application that enables teams to ideate, design, and build better ideas. Both applications can embed Lucid documents in the Rich Content Editor of Canvas or as an assignment submission. | Within Canvas and the Lucid website after following the initial setup in Canvas |
MS Teams | Microsoft Teams is a great tool for collaboration with your staff peers and your students. Staff can create a new Team and invite people to join, including students. A Team is different from a group chat. It is a more permanent home for your conversation, allows for posts and replies, pinned posts, topic channels, a file repository, shared document and live document collaboration. The team manager can also add applications for collaboration. Only staff can create a Team – students can only create group chats and gain all the benefits posts. | Install software > Office 360 |
Panopto | Panopto is a video content management system for uploading, managing and sharing videos and audio files. It's a centralised, secure place for recorded lectures, training videos and student assignments. Video capture requires downloading the small Panopto recorder program while video editing and content management are web browser based. | Installed recorder software OR web capture |
PebblePad | PebblePad is the learning ePortfolio used by ECU. It is useful in the classroom because it allows students to take control of their own learning. PebblePad provides scaffolding to students, giving them skills that can be directly integrated into their working life. | Learning Portfolio AND Within Canvas |
Reading List (eReserve) | All Third Party text-based Copyright Material to be communicated online under the Part VB Statutory Licence Scheme must be placed into the Reading List tool. Readings can include links to e-books, books held by the library, journal articles, excerpts from books, conference papers, links to websites, and other sources. | Within Canvas |
Turnitin | Turnitin is a text matching system that compares text in a student assignment against a database of sources, including journals, websites, and other students’ submissions. Students submit their assignments through a Turnitin submission point in their Canvas unit. The results can be used to identify similarities to existing sources or can be used in formative assessment to help students learn how to avoid plagiarism and improve their writing. | Within Canvas |
