Start a sports club

Starting an ECU sports club is a great way to bring people together, create an inclusive community, and build real leadership skills while studying. If you have an idea for a sports club and want it officially affiliated with ECU, follow the steps below.

What you’ll need to do

  1. Find your members
You’ll need at least 10 interested members. Members must be current ECU students or staff.
  2. Read the guidelines
Review the ECU Sports Clubs Guidelines (coming February 2026) to understand how clubs operate and what’s required.
  3. Form a committee
Find at least two people to help manage the club. Different committee structures are available, you choose what suits your club.
  4. Chat with the ECU Sport & Recreation team
Book a meeting to talk through your club idea and next steps. Email ecusportsclubs@ecu.edu.au to organise a time.
  5. Hold an AGM and complete the forms
Run an Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect club leaders and complete the Operational Plan form.
  6. Submit everything for approval
Once your paperwork is submitted and approved by ECU Sport and Recreation, your club is officially ready to go.
