Committee support resources

The University Governance Unit aims to provide our staff involved in supporting committees and boards with resources that will assist them to execute their role professionally, expertly and with efficiency. Included in this page are templates, links to relevant webpages and downloads related to the committee secretarial role.

We offer training through the Committee Essentials for Executive Officers workshop. This workshop is targeted for staff who have responsibility for providing secretarial support to a committee. Further details and bookings are available via the Staff Kiosk.

This workshop will provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of a Committee Secretary and include:

  • Preparation of agendas;
  • Working with the Chair;
  • Minute writing;
  • Other roles associated with the effective operation of committees.

At the completion of the session participants should:

  • Understand the role of the executive officer;
  • Understand how to work with a Chair;
  • Understand the elements of good practice for committee support;
  • Understand the difference between minutes/action statements;
  • Know how to write good minutes/action statements;
  • Know how to put together a good agenda.
