Research area

Ashkan is a PhD student in business from the School of Business and Law at Edith Cowan University. My current research interests include supply chain resilience, data-driven robust optimisation, and stochastic programming for making decisions under uncertainty. I have concentrated on robust optimisation, utilising both classical and data-driven techniques to develop supply chain networks and inventory management models for perishable goods. I also focused on exact algorithms such as benders decomposition, generalised outer approximation, generalised cross approximation, outer approximation with equality relaxation, and the augmented penalty algorithm. Additionally, I have developed metaheuristics, particularly for mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) models. Due to the inherent uncertainty and extreme complexity of the consumer goods sector, I am developing supply chain networks for this industry as part of my PhD research. Since disruptions might occur in real-world scenarios, I combine robust optimisation with machine learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning to enhance decision-making under uncertainty. Furthermore, I integrate stochastic programming with a multitude of risk-averse techniques, including p-robust programming, chance-constrained programming, conditional value at risk, min-max regret, etc. I also do both predictive and prescriptive analytics for a wide range of industries to provide a full picture of them.

Background

Ashkan completed his Bachelor of Business Administration in 2013, and he received his Master of EMBA in 2016. He was the supply chain manager for six years in the high-tech industry. Ashkan has been awarded the ECU Higher Degree by Research Scholarship (ECUHDRS) to pursue a PhD. He enjoys reading, astronomy, and swimming.
