The Amenities and Service fee is a voluntary fee contributing towards non-academic services at ECU via the Student Guild.
You can opt in or out of paying the fee on our Student Information Management Online (SIMO) system prior to the census date under the ‘Service Questions’ link.
The fees which are collected are passed on to the Student Guild to be used to fund the provision of an agreed range of non-academic services and amenities to students which include representation, advocacy and welfare services and cultural, sporting and recreational activities.
For 2011 the amenities and services fee at ECU is:
Full time student - $50.00 per semester
Part time student - $25.00 per semester
External student - $15.00 per semester
The fee is collected on a semester by semester basis.
The ECU Student Guild has been established by State Parliament under the Edith Cowan University Act 1984 (the ECU Act). Its primary purpose is to further the common interests of its members.
No student is compelled to join the ECU Student Guild as a condition of enrolment. Under the ECU Act, you automatically become a member of the Student Guild on enrolment, for the period of your enrolment, unless you wish to opt out of membership.
If you do not wish to be a member of the Student Guild, you must elect not to be a member by nominating your preference when enrolling on our Student Information Management Online (SIMO) system.
If you select to pay the Amenities and Service Fee, you will then to be invoiced after the Financial Census Date. Alternatively, if you do not choose to pay the Amenities and Service fee or fail to make a choice, you will not be liable for the fee.
Under the Amenities and Service Fee Rules, liability to pay the Amenities and Service fee arises on the Census Date for each semester. If you choose to pay the Amenities and Service Fee but do not pay the fee by the due date sanctions may be applied by the University.
Membership of the ECU Student Guild is free of charge.
If you wish to use all the amenities and services provided by the Student Guild and become a Fee-Paying member, you must elect to pay the Amenities and Services Fee by nominating your preference when enrolling in our Student Information Management Online (SIMO) system.
International students are treated in the same way as domestic students.
International students studying on-shore are provided with the same choice as other students to use or not use the amenities and services provided by the Student Guild and therefore pay or not pay the Amenities and Service fee. If as an International student studying on-shore you choose to use the amenities and services provided by the Student Guild and therefore pay the Amenities and Service fee, you will be invoiced for the fee accordingly.
International students studying off-shore are currently exempted from paying the fee.
