Set up your device for the new Eduroam connection

Wednesday, 16 September 2026

Tags:

ECU is introducing digital certificates for Eduroam to make connecting to the wireless network more secure and reliable.

A digital certificate works like a secure digital ID for your device. Once it is installed, your device can verify itself when connecting to Eduroam, so you won’t need to repeatedly enter your ECU username and password.

What you need to do

If you use a personal device to connect to Eduroam, you’ll need to install a SecureW2 digital certificate.

Follow the instructions to set up your device

Once installed, your device will connect to Eduroam automatically and securely, without requiring your password each time.

Why is Eduroam changing?

Digital certificates provide stronger security than passwords alone and help protect your ECU account from cyber threats such as password theft and phishing.

They should also make connecting to Eduroam faster and more reliable.

Make the change before the end of the year

Password-only access to Eduroam will be retired by the end of 2026.

After this change, personal devices will need a valid digital certificate to connect to Eduroam. Students are encouraged to complete the setup as soon as possible to avoid losing access to the ECU wireless network.
