ECU’s new innovation studio, the CreatorsLAB, is now open!
Located on the ground floor of ECU City at the corner of Yagan Square Mall and Wellington Street, this dynamic space combines creative practice, experiential design and technology to explore ideas and unlock opportunities.
The Excite Program marks the first phase of activation for the space. The program runs from May 18 through till July and invites ECU staff and students from all our schools and campuses to explore its capabilities through a series of guided workshops, demonstrations and tours.
Here’s a taste of what’s on offer, you can register for upcoming sessions via their page.
Discover ECU's new innovation studio on one of our CreatorsLAB tours.
More than a room of technology, the CreatorsLAB is part of an ecosystem that connects ECU’s community with Perth’s growing creative and technology sectors, strengthens partnerships with global industry leaders, and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration.
Available to both ECU staff and students, tours will include a presentation on this exciting new asset; a walk-through of the space; and the opportunity to share ideas for future programming.
These 30-minute sessions - led by student guild club Tone Deaf - give students and staff the opportunity to experiment with DJ'ing and digital music production or share new work they create whilst socialising with their peers.
Tone Deaf fosters a vibrant community for ECU students passionate about DJ'ing, electronic music, and event production. The group organise student-centered events such as rave parties, open-deck nights, and DJ showcases.
From infographics and websites, to games and simulations, this workshop will introduce you to the key concepts of agentic AI - from building simple outputs to more advanced prototypes - what platforms you should use, and how you can integrate it into your daily life.
This workshop will be delivered by ECU's Digital Services Product Owner - AI, Antony Tibbs. Antony is an experienced leader in delivering technology transformation projects in higher education, with a focus on learning technologies and AI. He is passionate about the potential of AI to empower people to maximise their impact.
From Van Gogh Live, to the Sphere in Las Vegas, immersive experiences have taken off around the world as audiences seek real-world experiences enhanced by creative technology.
Led by facilitator Marcin Oleszkiewicz, this session will unpack what we mean by “immersive experiences”, how designing for spatial, interactive or large-scale environments differs from designing for normal screens, and how tools like TouchDesigner can be used to bring visuals, audio, input and environment together in real time.
Watch what happens when diverse minds come together to create MAGIC!
This fun, high-energy workshop helps ECU students and staff learn how to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams to develop early-stage ideas with creative, practical, social or cultural potential.
Working in small teams, participants will explore new opportunities, consider who will be impacted by that opportunity being realised, what form it could take, and how it could begin to evolve.
The session concludes with each team pitching their concept to the group using the infamous Gaddie structure whilst discovering more about how the CreatorsLAB can take your idea to the next level.
