Feeling a bit overwhelmed thinking about exams and final assessments? You’re not alone – but getting organised early can make a big difference.

Whether your units include exams, timed assessments or final projects, now’s the time to get organised so you can finish the semester strong. From checking your schedule to building a study plan, a few simple steps now can save you stress later.

Start with a plan

Getting on the front foot will save you stress later.

  • Set clear, realistic study goals for each week
  • Use a planner or calendar to map out key dates and study time
  • Break larger tasks into smaller, manageable chunks
  • Build in time for rest, meals and sleep

Starting early means you can pace yourself instead of cramming at the last minute.

Get organised

A little organisation now will make revision much easier later on.

  • Sort your notes, lecture slides and readings
  • Create folders for each unit or topic
  • Summarise key ideas in your own words
  • Highlight important concepts, formulas or definitions

The clearer your materials are, the easier it’ll be to revise when assessments get closer.

Use active study techniques

It’s not just about how long you study — it’s how you study.

  • Create mind maps or diagrams to connect ideas
  • Use flashcards or summary tables to test your memory
  • Practise explaining concepts out loud
  • Test yourself with practice questions or past assessments
  • Study with classmates to stay motivated and accountable

Active revision helps you understand and retain information more effectively.

Get familiar with your assessments

Knowing what to expect will help you feel more prepared.

  • Check your unit outlines for assessment formats and requirements
  • Keep track of key dates and deadlines in SIMO or Canvas
  • Understand what materials you’re allowed to use
  • Try a practice run under timed conditions when possible

A little preparation now can boost your confidence later.

Take care of yourself

Looking after your wellbeing is just as important as studying.

  • Eat regular, nourishing meals and stay hydrated
  • Aim for consistent, quality sleep
  • Take short breaks to recharge
  • Stay connected with friends, family or classmates

Your brain works best when your body is looked after.

If you have exams...

Take the stress out of exam period by knowing exactly when and where your assessments are taking place.

  • Check your personalised exam schedule on SIMO
  • Note down key dates, times and locations
  • Make sure you have your Student ID ready
  • Check what materials you’re allowed to bring
  • Plan how you’ll get to your exam location ahead of time
