Did you know ECU has a Medical Centre for students on the Joondalup and Mount Lawley campuses?
The ECU Health Service assists students, staff and the university community with their health care needs.
We offer a range of low or no-cost general practitioner and nursing services at Mount Lawley and Joondalup. South West students can also access Telehealth services.
ECU staff and the general public are also able to use our services, however private fees apply.
When visiting the ECU Health Service, you will be required to show your student ID card as evidence of being a currently enrolled student of ECU or ECC to access the free services.
While many of us think of visiting a doctor when we are feeling ill, there's a whole range of services that can be utilised to help you stay as healthy as possible, including getting regular sexual health checks.
Anyone who is sexually active should get a regular sexual health check. It is recommended you get a check up once every three months.
The most recent government report on sexually transmitted infections shows that there is an increase in the occurrence of gonorrhoea in Western Australia, while the number of cases other sexually transmitted infections and blood-borne viruses are reducing.
The report suggests in comparison to the previous 12-month period, the gonorrhoea notification rate increased by 23% and the test positivity rate increased by 30%
Especially among those aged 20-29 years of age, they saw a 40% increase and notifications among this group also increased by 34% to the previous year.
Many sexually transmitted infections can only be detected via a medical test.
Head to the Healthysexual website to find out more, and book an appointment at the ECU Health Service if it's time for a check up.
