Have a meaningful conversation this R U OK? Day

Monday, 05 September 2022

Tags:

On Thursday 8 September R U OK? Day is being commemorated across ECU’s campuses. With various activities and giveaways arranged for students and staff alike in recognition of the day, it is important to reflect upon our own mental health and check in on family, friends, and colleagues.

By encouraging people to invest more time in their personal relationships and strengthening individual connections, R U OK?’s goal is to prepare people to be alert to those around them and have a conversation if they notice signs of distress or difficulty. They can then connect those in need to the appropriate support, long before they’re in a crisis.

You don’t need to be a professional or an expert to have a warm and meaningful conversation. Just follow R U OK?’s 4 step process:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen with an open mind
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

For information on how to learn the signs and ask R U OK? head over to the R U OK? website.
