On 14 July, the Research Services Industry Engagement team, together with the Schools of Engineering and Science, held a Research Showcase for Subsea Innovation Cluster Australia (SICA) members and defence partners.
SICA nurtures industry growth for the Australian subsea industry through collaboration and innovation, working to expand the market and reach of the Australian subsea sector. ECU recently joined SICA as a Research Member, which is providing opportunities for ECU researchers to connect with industries in areas such as oil and gas, defence, subsea mining, aquaculture and offshore renewable energy.
The recent event was held at the ECU Joondalup Campus to showcase an impressive display of ECU’s industry relevant research in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, engineering and science.
The showcase was an opportunity for attendees to tour the University’s latest state-of-the-art and purpose-built research facilities, and included tours of ECU’s Security Research Institute (SRI) and Security Operations Centre. The School of Engineering’s laboratories feature world class facilities that are driving innovation and R&D for WA’s manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and other related industries. Marine Ecosystems research and the science of underwater electrochemistry were also showcased.
The showcase event involved interactive Q&As with some of ECU’s leading researchers in cybersecurity, AI, science and engineering, and featured a long list of presenters, including:
This event was an opportunity for ECU researchers to better understand some of the key challenges faced by SICA members and defence partners as Western Australia grows its maritime and subsea capabilities. ECU is well placed to contribute significantly, through research and education, to growth in these areas.
