Rules, Policy and Procedures

The Rules, Policy and Procedures meet the requirements the Higher Education Standards 2015 Framework, and deliver on the five core elements of exemplary academic integrity policy (Bretag et al., 2011;TEQSA, 2017):

  1. Access: Our Rules, Policy and Procedures are easily accessible to both staff and students.
  2. Approach: ECU is committed to an educative approach to academic integrity that is consistent, equitable and transparent and where students are supported in developing and demonstrating academic skills.
  3. Responsibility: clear roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders within the Policy document.
  4. Detail: the suite of documents, matrices, tables and flowcharts provide a detailed description of the range of academic misconduct and levels of severity.
  5. Support: a range of university wide support resources are available to support both staff and students.  Information on these are detailed in this the Staff Academic Integrity Website and in the Student Academic Integrity Website.

All academic and professional staff involved in learning, teaching and research are expected to be proactive in promoting academic integrity and to display leadership in this area. This includes:

  1. The integrity of student assessments.
  2. The integrity of research and research activity.
  3. The prevention, detection and addressing academic misconduct by students or staff including cheating and plagiarism.
