Staying Safe at ECU City

As we continue to settle into our new ECU City Campus, we want to remind our community of the importance of remaining aware of your surroundings when moving around the campus and the surrounding precinct.

ECU is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment, and we encourage everyone to be mindful of personal safety when travelling to, from, and around the campus.

Tips for staying safe

To help you stay safe when moving around the campus and precinct, please consider the following:

  • Plan safe routes when travelling to and from campus.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, especially when using public transport or walking at night.
  • Avoid higher‑risk areas and choose well‑lit pathways.
  • Travel with others, when possible, particularly after hours.
  • Register for and download the free NowForce Safety App (ECU Security App), which provides:
  • Mobile Duress Alarm – Connects directly to ECU’s 24/7 Security Control Room, sharing your GPS location, opening phone audio, and recording video if required.
  • Working Alone / Late‑Night Notifications – Alerts Security to your location when you are working or studying outside regular hours.
  • Incident Reporting – Allows you to quickly report any security concern on or around campus.
  • Virtual Escort Service – Offers a virtual escort when walking to your vehicle, public transport, or nearby areas.

If you need support or ever feel unsafe, you can contact ECU Security 24/7 on 6304 3333, use the NowForce Mobile Duress Alarm, visit any staffed Security point on campus, or call 000 in an emergency.

Safety After Dark Tour

You can also build your safety knowledge and skills by signing up to a Safety After Dark Tour.

This walking tour is led by a WA Police Officer, and a Constable Care Foundation assistant, highlights how relatively safe areas during the day become riskier when darkness falls.

The three-hour evening educational walking tours of the Perth CBD, and adjacent entertainment precincts, provides people with the knowledge, skills and confidence to stay safe when venturing out.

The next tour is on 22 April from 5:15pm - 8:30pm. Sign up now.
