At ECU, your safety and wellbeing are our priority. We want every student to feel confident and supported while on campus – and a big part of that is knowing the simple steps you can take, and what to do if something doesn’t feel right.

Everyday tips for staying safe at ECU

  • Be alert to suspicious activity – if you see something that doesn’t feel right, contact ECU Security right away on 08 6304 3333 (or 3333 from an internal phone).
  • If you’re working late, keep your office locked and call Security if you’d like an escort to your car.
  • When walking at night, stick to well-lit paths, walk with friends if you can and keep your keys handy before reaching your destination.
  • Keep your keys, access cards and valuables secure at all times. Never loan them out and report any loss immediately.
  • Don’t leave laptops, phones or bags unattended in classrooms or study spaces.
  • Always lock your vehicle or bike, don't leave your windows down or leave your keys in the vehicle and keep valuables out of sight. Try to park close to your destination (students can utilise staff blue parking bays after 4.45pm).

Support at your fingertips

Did you know ECU offers a free safety app? The NowForce app makes it easy to connect with Security whenever you need. You can:

  • Use the SOS function for immediate help – Security will see your location and respond quickly.
  • Set up a ‘working alone’ notification if you’re studying late at night, so Security knows where you are and when to expect you to leave.
  • Contact Security directly for advice, assistance, or to request an escort.

You can find out more information and how to download NowForce here.

Reporting incidents

If you experience or witness something concerning on campus, you can report it directly to ECU Security or through the University’s incident reporting system.

Even small reports help ECU respond quickly and improve safety for everyone.

Your 24/7 Security team

The primary role of ECU Security is to protect life and property while maintaining a safe, secure environment for students, staff and visitors. Our professional officers operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and can assist with:

  • Building and grounds patrols
  • Escorts and accompaniments to your car, bus or accommodation
  • First aid and emergency response
  • Security awareness programs and advice
  • Help in conflict situations or with alarms
  • Transport assistance if you’re unwell or injured
  • Emergency situation management

Security phones are also located around campus for quick, direct contact – simply lift the handset and you’ll be connected. See our campus maps for emergency phone locations.

We’re here for you 24/7

By taking small steps to look after yourself, using the services available and reporting concerns, you’re helping keep ECU a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Download the NowForce app or call 08 6304 3333 to get help fast.
