ECU Sports is excited to announce that Royan Norman and Jake Whan have been selected as co-captains to lead our student athletes at the upcoming UniSport Nationals Event.
UniSport Nationals is a prestigious annual event hosted by UniSport Australia, bringing together universities from across the country to compete in a range of sports. In 2025, the event will be held on the Gold Coast from 27 September to 3 October.
Both Norman and Whan embody the values of ECU and have made significant contributions to our social sport program by delivering sessions and taking on leadership roles within ECU Sports Clubs (futsal and netball respectively).
When asked about the opportunity to lead at Nationals, Jake said,
“I am proud to be a part of an incredible group of student athletes and honoured to be selected to lead them to Nationals. To lead alongside Royan is an exciting opportunity and I am eager to see what we can achieve together whilst playing in the right spirit, having fun and giving it our all.”
Royan shared a similar sentiment, adding,
“It’s a privilege to support a passionate group of student athletes alongside like-minded leaders like Jake. I'm excited to support our teams both on and off the field and help create the moments that make Nationals unforgettable.”
ECU Sport & Fitness Centre staff Belinda Somers and Kyla Devine also expressed their excitement over the captaincy selection, stating,
"Over the past two years, Royan and Jake have truly embodied the spirit of ECU Sports through their dedication, maturity, and standout performances on and off the field. Their growth as athletes has been matched by their development as approachable, supportive peers and exceptional leaders. They represent everything we strive for at ECU Sports, and we are confident they will do an outstanding job leading our Western Invitational and National student teams in 2026.”
ECU is proud to support our 2025 UniSport Nationals captains and we look forward to seeing their leadership shine through our representative program, starting with the Western Invitational Event.
