Today we celebrate an exciting milestone in our journey to deliver the ECU City project, with the campus reaching its full structural height.
Together with the Premier of Western Australia, the Honourable Roger Cook MLA, the Federal Minister for Infrastructure, the Honourable Catherine King MP, and other government dignitaries, we marked this significant achievement atop the ECU City campus site.
Yesterday we also held a traditional Smoking Ceremony, guided by our lead cultural adviser, Dr Richard Walley and his son Alton. This special ceremony connects us with our history and with country, and is a shared celebration of this important milestone.
The ‘topping out’ of a building, especially a university campus, is a powerful symbol of progress. It represents the realisation of many thousands of hours of work by our people, as well as designers, architects, skilled tradespeople and many other professionals.
It also signifies the culmination of a shared vision to deliver a truly extraordinary project for our university, our city and our state.
ECU City will be the launchpad for the creative thinkers, entrepreneurs, artists, performers and leaders of our future. It will be a place where knowledge flourishes, ideas ignite and where research delivers groundbreaking discoveries for our world.
This campus, with its leading-edge learning, technology and performance facilities, will not only enhance our university’s teaching and research capabilities, it will also establish a vibrant, beating heart in our city.
As we reflect on all that has been achieved since ECU City was first announced just four years ago, we are reminded of our bold ambition – to create a university of the future that redefines education, and where community, our students and people lie at its heart.
We are honoured to be delivering the ECU City campus together with our partners, the Australian Government and the Western Australian Government, who have been with us on this journey since the beginning.
Thank you to all those who have worked tirelessly as we bring this transformational project to life.
I look forward to sharing more with you as we work towards our opening in Semester One, 2026.
