A message from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Equity and Indigenous).
Kaya,
I am delighted to announce that Dr Kylie Austin has been appointed as our new Director, Student Life. Kylie brings over sixteen years of extensive leadership experience in the Australian higher education sector, and she will play a key role in shaping the student experience at ECU.
Kylie joins us from the University of Wollongong where she has led university-wide initiatives to enhance representation and participation of underrepresented cohorts and has developed comprehensive strategies to improve the student experience across multiple campuses. From orientation programs to academic support and co-curricular activities, Kylie’s leadership has consistently focused on enhancing student engagement and success.
In addition to her institutional leadership roles, Kylie is currently the President of Equity Practitioners in Higher Education Australasia, where she provides national advocacy and professional development to student and staff equity practitioners across the sector.
Her research background includes a PhD focusing on partnerships and equity, and she has spearheaded national research projects aimed at understanding the experiences of underrepresented cohorts in higher education.
We are excited to welcome Kylie to ECU and to Boorloo/Perth, where she will play a pivotal role in advancing our comprehensive, whole-of-University approach to student support. Kylie brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, and I am confident her contributions will be invaluable as she begins her journey with us on 9 December 2024.
Please join me in welcoming Kylie to the ECU community, Noongar boodjar, and to Western Australia.
Professor Braden Hill
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Equity and Indigenous)
