Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steve Chapman CBE and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Equity and Indigenous), Professor Braden Hill invite all members of the ECU Community to celebrate National NAIDOC Week 2024.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the history, resilience, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This year's National NAIDOC theme 'Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud' celebrates the unyielding spirit of First Nations communities and invites us all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that continue to be silenced.
It calls for a reclamation of narratives, a support of First Nations representation and an unwavering commitment to justice and equity.
Edith Cowan University is proud to celebrate this years theme and is hosting a range of events to honour the occasion, including a special exhibition in Gallery25, ECU Mount Lawley.
Drawing from the ECU Collection, the exhibition Boola Moorditj Boordiya (Many Strong Leaders), honours Noongar ancestors, elders and leaders who have been pivotal in shaping Noongar art into what it is today.
The exhibition has been curated by Zali Morgan, Whadjuk, Ballardong and Wilman Noongar woman; multidisciplinary artist and writer. See the gallery opening hours.
Join this panel discussion on Saturday 13 July from 2.00pm - 3.00pm. The conversation will be facilitated by curator Zali Morgan. Register to attend.
Celebrate NAIDOC week with the launch of new First Nations artwork in the Student Hub. The event will be on Tuesday, 9 July from 11.30am-12.30pm. Head to Building 1 Gallery and Foyer, followed by tour of the new Student Hub space ECU South West. Register to attend.
The City of Joondalup has a stack of events from courses in learning Noongar language, to film screenings, craft events and catching up with Ernie Dingo for a yarn. See all the things on offer.
We encourage you to attend NAIDOC Week events in your local community and embrace a greater connection to the country on which we live. Visit NAIDOC Week and your local council website for a list of events happening near you.
