A Message from Braden Hill, Deputy Vice-Chancellor - (Students, Equity and Indigenous)

Kaya (Hello),

I am delighted to let you know about The Living Room, a new student support service we have opening its doors to all students from today.

The Living Room is all about supporting your wellbeing and mental health while you study with us at ECU and is based on a successful model run at UWA.

We know that stress and mental health challenges are one of the main reason students decide to stop studying so this new service will be a great place to access support and guidance around mental health and wellbeing when you need it.

Instead of having to book an appointment with a mental health professional, which can sometimes be a bit daunting, The Living Room is a space where you drop in to have a relaxed chat with a trained peer who understands the journey you are going on.

Whether you are stressed about your studies, have stuff going on at home or are feeling a bit isolated in a way that is impacting your studies, The Living Room team will be there to help with recommendations on how to tackle whatever challenge that may be ahead of you.

It is a quiet and calming space where you can take some time out, chat to a friendly face and get some guidance on how to plan around any barriers in your way.

The Living Room is located alongside the ECU Health Service, and Psychological Counselling Support in the Wellbeing Precinct at Building 6 on the Joondalup campus.

While our Joondalup campus is the first to have The Living Room service, it will also be an important part of our new city campus and we will be exploring expanding it to our other campuses later this year.

You can find out more about this new project online, and I hope it will be of great benefit to you as you progress through your studies.

Braden Hill
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students, Equity and Indigenous)
