Call for entries – 2023 Talus Prize

Entries are now open for the 2023 Talus Prize.

The School of Arts and Humanities’ undergraduate creative writing prize, the Talus, is open to all currently enrolled ECU undergraduate students across our three campuses.

This competition gives students the chance to explore their creative side and express themselves through the written word. Cash and book prizes are awarded to the most outstanding works in two categories, ‘Short Stories and ‘Poetry’.

Winners are announced in the November and prizes will be awarded at the School’s annual Student Prize Ceremony in March of the following year.

Prizes

Three prizes are awarded in each category.

Short stories

  • First Prize
    • Book prize donated by Night Parrot Press,
    • Opportunity to work with Westerly editors for publication on their website, and
    • One year subscription to Westerly.
  • Highly Commended
    • Book prize donated by Night Parrot Press, and
    • Workshop voucher and One-Year Membership to Peter Cowan Writers Centre.
  • Commended
    • Book prize donated by Night Parrot Press, and
    • Certificate of Commendation.

Poetry

  • First Prize
    • Opportunity to work with Westerly editors for publication on their website,
    • One year subscription to Westerly, and
    • Book prize donated by Fremantle Press.
  • Highly Commended
    • Book prize donated by Fremantle Press, and
    • Workshop voucher and One-Year Membership to Peter Cowan Writers Centre.
  • Commended
    • Book prize donated by Fremantle Press, and
    • Certificate of Commendation.

How to enter

Submission close on Friday, 13 October 2023 and students of all disciplines and skill levels are encouraged to enter.
