National Student Volunteers Week #NSVW23 (7-13 August)

Thursday, 03 August 2023

This year National Student Volunteer Week (#NSVW23) runs from 7 - 13 August 2023 acknowledges and celebrates student volunteers and promotes volunteering to students and young people across Australia.

Antonia Taylor from Volunteering WA says that volunteering has the power to offer experiences that will challenge your perspectives on some of societies biggest problems from homelessness to aging populations to environmental degradation. Whether you are passionate about the welfare of animals or making the day of someone that is socially isolated, you can find purpose and meaning as a volunteer.

Here at ECU, we would be lost without our student volunteers, from Orientation to Open Day they’re a valued member of our university community. So, during this week, we’d like to say a massive ‘thank you ‘to you all.

Volunteering doesn’t have to be long-term; it might be just one day for a few hours that allows you to give back and make an impact. If you have some free time, why not consider volunteering?

What’s in it for me?

  • Giving back is awesome, makes you a better person, and like a warm hug makes you feel good all over
  • Creates a sense of purpose and belonging to a new community, something we all need.
  • Builds your network – you never know who you might meet!
  • Enables you to share your talent and learn new skills – ultimately boosting your CV and employability. Hear what our alumni have to say about the value of volunteering  in different industries.
  • It can just be absolute fun!

How to get involved?

  • Contact the ECU Student Guild to see how you can get involved with a student club or society, like Enactus ECU or Teach Learn Grow.
