As we head towards the end of semester it's time to start preparing for final assessments and exams. Some of your units may have a formal exam, while others will utilise timed assessment or other methods of measuring your learning.

Check to see which methods are being used in your units and plan accordingly.

Preparing for a traditional exam

Exams can seem daunting but some planning and preparation with ensure they are not a stressful experience.

Plan Your Study

  • Establish specific revision goals
  • Set up a realistic weekly planner leading up to the exams. You can download a weekly planner from the pintables section below.
  • Get organised
  • Set up a space that is conducive to study: quiet, comfortable, well-lit and free of distractions
  • Sort and file lecture and tutorial notes, handouts and readings for each topic
  • Rewrite notes, reducing them to headings, key points, names, dates, definitions, etc.

Use active revision techniques

  • Write short summaries of theories and concepts
  • Draw diagrams/flowcharts of systems or processes
  • Make numbered lists of points to recall
