National Careers Week runs during Week 12 from 15 - 21 May. It is a time to celebrate careers, career development, career development services, and career development practitioners.

Throughout the week ECU will be holding a series of special events and will highlight resources for developing your career skills.

Pride at Work

Since its launch in 2010 the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) has delivered a transformative process across many industries.

It has become the definitive national benchmark on LGBTQ workplace inclusion and comprises the largest and only national employee survey designed to gauge the overall impact of inclusion initiatives on organisational culture.

While society overall has embraced LGBTIQA+ people, there can still be challenges to gaining employment. The 2019 AWEI Employee Survey found that 66% of trans and gender diverse people have fears about discrimination during recruitment processes.

These fears are well founded; research conducted in 2015 showed that employers were more likely to prefer and offer interviews to candidates who they perceived as cisgender and heterosexual, even if those candidates are less qualified for the position.

During Careers Week 2023, a panel of AWEI (Australian Workplace Equality Index) medalists will discuss how their companies are creating inclusive workplaces that allow full self-expression among LGBTIQ+ community members.

Which companies are exceeding expectations? How do excel in your career without being asked to hide your gender or sexuality? Join this informative discussion and get your questions answered.

17 May 2023, 3.00pm - 4.00pm

Register to attend on the Joondalup campus or online.
