Media and journalism students can get a great start to their career by securing a paid internship at The Conversation.

The Conversation’s editorial internship is a paid, intensive two-week program which gives six students from member universities the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, learn from working editors and be mentored in their newsroom.

The Conversation Australia and New Zealand is a unique collaboration between academics and journalists that is the world’s leading publisher of research-based news and analysis.

Interns will divide their time between a curated program of tutorials on topics like editing, storytelling for the newsroom, headline writing and data journalism, and working with a mentor in the newsroom to develop a folio of articles – with academic experts – to be published on The Conversation.

Interns at The Conversation work closely with section editors and will get direct experience commissioning and editing, fact-checking, working on multimedia products, and working directly with academic authors to publish articles.

The internship is particularly suited to final year journalism or media students seeking practical industry experience. It is an active, hands-on internship, and individual initiative and motivation are determinants of success.

The program takes place over two weeks in February and is based in Melbourne.

Applications close at 5pm (Melbourne time) on Monday 16 January 2023 and all the details can be found on The Conversation website.
