We warmly welcome staff and students to the refurbished Joondalup Library.
The space is designed to provide a seamless experience to students by bringing ECU’s learning support services together.
Kaarla Mia, meaning homefires in Noongar, is at the heart of this new student space. It is a meeting place for all ECU students. Kaarla Mia incorporates elements of our Boorna Baronga cultural reflection space outside the Library here representing all Noongar nations in Western Australia. The lighting represents our night sky and our ability to always find our way on whatever journey we may be on. Our elder in residence, Dr Roma Winmar was integral to this space as were the team at Kurongkurl Katitjin.
Learning and Career Hub
New features include the relocated Academic Skills and Careers, refurbished eLab, collaborative workspaces, hi-tech booths and streamlined passage through level 2. There's also a staircase and study space connecting levels 1 and 2, upgraded outdoor areas and improved student kitchen facilities.
The Learning and Career Hub services are listed on the Library website.
To celebrate the Library team are running a digital quiz in weeks 1 and 2, designed by students to showcase the space. Participants can enter the draw to win an iPad - it’s very easy and all you need is your phone.
How to play: Visit Joondalup Library between 9:00am and 5:00pm in the first two weeks of semester and start by scanning the QR code at one of the new self-help screens on level 2, using your phone camera. Follow the clues until you are prompted to leave your student number. If you have any questions you can ask the Peer Assistants working in the Library for help. The winner will be announced in week 3. Good luck!
Peer Assistants will be present in the space from 9:00am-5:00pm weekdays, offering directional support, referring students to services and answering questions about learning technologies.
Student can also get support from Peer Assistants virtually. For more information please refer to our peer assistant web page.
Current opening hours are available on the Library website.
